SAN DIEGO, MAY 7, 2007 ¯ GE Healthcare launches today the Voluson e system, a compact ultrasound system designed specifically for women’s healthcare, including obstetric, gynecological, and other clinical applications.  The portability of this approximately 11-pound system can provide high-quality imaging at the patient bedside and for community clinics, where space constraints are possible. This new compact system, on the heels of last year’s launch of the Voluson i, also allows clinicians to make real-time diagnoses, particularly for high-risk patients. The Voluson e is being showcased May 7-9 in GE Healthcare’s booth #1523 in exhibit halls C-H, at the 55th Annual Clinical Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in San Diego.

The Voluson e is specifically designed for uses in labor and delivery, gynecological exams and studies and assisted reproductive medicine.

According to Omar Ishrak, president and CEO of GE Healthcare’s Clinical Systems business, there is a need for more specialized, high-quality point of care systems to meet the growing demands for on-the-spot diagnosis. “The Voluson e and Voluson i address one of the biggest challenges OB/GYN physicians face in caring for their high-risk patients – access to complete, real-time information that allows them to make clinical decisions at the patient’s bedside with confidence,” Ishrak said.

Other GE products showcased at ACOG include:

Voluson i Breakthrough 2007 – The Voluson i Breakthrough 2007 makes its debut at ACOG. The enhanced features offer clinically relevant enhancements to help improve patient care. A wider breadth of tools helps allow clinicians to stay at the forefront of women’s healthcare and better assess patients for volumetric ultrasound studies, such as assessing the fetal heart. Migrating advanced technologies across the Voluson product line is the underpinning of this annual GE Breakthrough release.  Each “i” product is designed to bring specialized, console-quality imaging performance and portability to traditional applications.  GE’s Compact Series “e” products focus on expanding ultrasound’s reach to new clinical areas.

LOGIQ P5 – The LOGIQ P5, introduced in 2006, has never been seen before at ACOG.  The LOGIQ P5 is part of the radiology line of LOGIQ ultrasound systems and provides versatility to clinics. From fibroid and cystic structure visualization, to routine fetal measurements and advanced applications, this system helps image patients for a clinic’s women’s healthcare specialty. GE’s TruScan™ architecture provides advanced diagnostic tools to provide better penetration and contrast resolution. Features such as Phase Inversion Harmonics help deliver clear border definition for improved visualization of the endometrial lining and clearer tumor assessments.

ViewPoint 2007 – The next generation of this comprehensive ultrasound data management solution for OB/GYN practices, launched at AIUM 2007, combines reporting and image archiving, while aiding clinicians in making their ultrasound workflow quicker and easier. Features to help improve workflow include image comparison, and integrated 4D View version 6.0 for post processing of Voluson E8 and Voluson 730 images. Reporting improvements include the fetal anatomy overview and a single fetal anatomy report screen based on AIUM guidelines for extended second trimester fetal scan. Other improvements included in ViewPoint 2007 are enhanced document management, PDF export and improved document history functionality.
